Salsa Music
The origins of salsa as music are heavily disputed. At the beginning this genre was called just "Latin" but it was later in 1920's when some cuban singers star using the term "salsa" for this style. So we could say that this style is a Latin hybrid drawing from the musical traditions of Cuba, Puerto Rico, and a host of other Latin countries. For years, many singers have been criss-crossing the streets of America, planting rebellious seeds of Latin music into the minds of its youth. Among them Marc Anthony. He is one of the most unique and recognizable voices in all of Latin music. He is an American & Latin Grammy award-winning singer/songwriter, actor and producer.
Marc Anthony is my personal favorite salsa singer. He was born in September 16th of 1968. Named by his musician-father after a famous Mexican singer of the same name (Marco Antonio Muniz), he changed his name, professionally, to avoid being confused with the legendary singer. Since he was very young he began singing, in English, in dance clubs in New York, where the audience might number 500 on a good night. But later on, influenced by the music of the mexican singer Juan Gabriel he decided to start singing Salsa, in Spanish, and this decision would make him succeed big.
Marc began his salsa career since 1993 when he performed his music in a Latin Music Convention to which Marc's manager had sent him. When he finished, he left the stage so quickly his manager had to grab him and point out that he was receiving a standing ovation. That event changed his life forever, after that performance he start getting booked and booked and booked. Places like Panama, Ecuador, Argentina, Colombia, Puerto Rico, Miami and Los Angeles start listening his salsa style.
However, despite his growing fame in other countries, Anthony remained relatively unknown outside the Latin music world, and that was the result of having sung almost exclusively in Spanish. So it was in September 1999 when he released his first album in English. He wrote many albums and very famous songs in both languages like: "I need to know," "you sang to me," "Amar sin mentiras" and "Valio la Pena."
Anthony has been awarded eight gold and platinum certifications. His albums "Contra La Corriente," "Todo A Su Tiempo", have all turned gold. Because of those albums Marc Anthony was awarded a Grammy for Best Latin/Tropical Performance in 1998. He also gave many concerts at Madison Square Garden. No salsa performer had ever been booked into the Garden. Marc Anthony sold out every seat in the house, and after that success he would repeat it every year thereafter.
Marc has appeared in movies like "Carlito's Way," "Natural Causes," "Marine Guard," "In the Time of the Butterflies" and "El Cantante". He also holds the record for winning the most “Premios Lo Nuestro” Awards out of all the artists. He has won sixteen of the awards. Marc Anthony has sold over ten million records worldwide.
About his personal life I could say that Marc Anthony married former Miss Universe Dayanara Torres on May 9th of 2000. Although, it was often rumored that his marriage was troubled since the beginning. Marc has two sons: Cristian Anthony Muniz, born February 5th of 2001 and Ryan Anthony Muniz, born August 16th of 2003. Less than one week after his divorce from Torres, Anthony married the latin singer Jennifer Lopez in June 5th of 2004. Their marriage was clandestine and little spoken-of for some time after the fact. It's also rumored that the song called "Valio la Pena" (It worthed) was dedicated to J. Lo. Marc Anthony and his wife Jennifer Lopez are the parents of fraternal twins, Emme Maribel Muñiz, born at 12:12 am (5 lbs, 7 oz) and Maximilian "Max" David Muñiz, born at 12:13 am (5 lbs, 13 oz) in Long Island N.Y. on February 22nd of 2008.

Sweet Love!
What the world needs now is love, Sweet love
Lord, we don't need another meadow
There are cornfields
And wheat fields enough to grow
There are sunbeams and moonbeams
Enough to shine
Oh, listen lord, ...
If you want to know
What the world needs now is love,
sweet love
It's the only thing
That there's just too little of
What the world needs now
is love, sweet love
No, not just for some,
But just, for every...everyone...
